The University of the Gambia Science Student Association

Science Week.

At ABC Upper and Senior Secondary School.

June 10, 2021.

The Science Student Association of the University of the Gambia selected ABC Upper and Senior Secondary School as one of the schools to host their annual Science Week. A cross-section of the students—primarily the science students at the school—were prepared for their arrival. Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the association’s delegation arrived, and the association’s president, a woman named Maimuna Triera, met with the principal, the vice principal, and the school’s proprietress. They were all welcomed with open arms.

Their mission to the school was to raise awareness among young aspiring scientists about the role of science in nation-building. Speaker after speaker urged students to take their schoolwork seriously, as the future development of The Gambia lies in their hands.

According to one of the speakers, he noted that there are many bankers, teachers, and others, but only a few scientists. As a result, The Gambia is an underdeveloped nation.

Another speaker said, “Inspire, perspire, or expire.” With these three words, he told the students that nothing they want comes easily. They have to work extremely hard to succeed, he concluded.

It was a lively event featuring many physics exhibits; students were given the opportunity to have a free blood test to determine their blood types. All the science students at the school now know their blood types. The event concluded with all participants posing for photos.
