Butterfly Friends Sports Day
Published March 4, 2023
Recently, dedicated teachers organized a sports day for the students at New Jeshwang.
This activity outside of school and the classroom is important because, over time, it brings the students closer together.
Throughout its twenty years in The Gambia, Butterfly Friends has been successful in fostering a strong sense of community among the students. I’ve seen this confirmed time and again through conversations with former students.
The network we all build through childhood, schooling, and sports is important, but it’s especially important in Africa, where most people start their adult lives—often alone and with nothing to their name.
Graduating students at Butterfly Friends schools tell me that they feel more secure when they finish school at age 18, having made many friends to lean on!
