"Commonwealth Day" Celebrated in Brikama

Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the “Commonwealth of Nations,” held on the second Monday in March. On this day, there is a big celebration at schools in The Gambia. All the students come to school dressed to the nines in their best clothes and bring special treats from home. The principal usually gives a speech about why the day is celebrated, and then there’s a party all day long. There are many similarities to how we celebrate May 17.
