
Now the smile is back

At all Butterfly Friends schools, we have skilled and dedicated cooks who prepare meals outdoors over an open fire so that our students can enjoy a hot meal every day. It’s a tremendous task, because the schools in New Jeshwang have 780 students and 58 staff members. That means they go through a sack of rice every single day.
One of our cooks there, Kumba Sawaeh (see photo above), came to us one day complaining of pain in her mouth. The cause was quite easy to identify. She had serious problems with worn-down and damaged teeth. She had been to the dentist for a consultation, but the price he quoted to fix her teeth was beyond what she could afford. Then two sponsors from Norway “chipped in” and helped her cover part of the bill. A few days later, she came back beaming and showed us a string of pearly white teeth. She wasn’t the only one who was happy……
