Vaccination of the girls
Published June 16, 2025
In The Gambia, all girls aged 9 to 14 receive the HPV vaccine. The HPV vaccine protects against the human papillomavirus (HPV), which can cause cancer of the cervix, vagina, vulva, anus, penis, mouth, and throat. A nurse and an assistant travel to schools to administer the vaccine. They are dispatched by the Regional Health Directorate and have received permission from the Regional Director of Education to carry out the vaccinations
at schools in the Western One region, where our schools are located.
This initiative is in line with the promotion
and celebration of Africa Vaccination Week, which began on April 29 and ran through May 4.
Everyone who is vaccinated will be registered and will receive their own vaccination certificate.
